Lakeshore Excellence Foundation
Endowment Fund
The Lakeshore Excellence Foundation (LEF) and the Berrien Community
Foundation (BCF) have jointly established the Lakeshore Excellence Foundation
Endowment Fund, and it offers special tax advantages for individuals
and corporations by virtue of Michigan’s Tax Credit for Community
Foundations.
When LEF made this announcement, LEF President, Carol
Stockman stated, “We are particularly
enthusiastic about this action because it assures that the LEF will continue
its role as a permanent supportive element in the Lakeshore School District.”
The purpose of this endowment fund is to continue to provide funding
for LEF projects over the years with the principle of the donation remaining
and growing through responsible financial management.
The BCF was selected to manage LEF’s endowment funds because it
is a locally based and operated organization, which has had notable success
in managing funds for over fifty years. David Bly, past Fundraising Chair
for LEF said, “I am pleased to have formed an association with
such a respected and effective organization.” Past Lakeshore School
District Superintendent, Gary Campbell, also noted that the original
formation of the LEF, although not new in educational fields, was an
experiment for the Lakeshore School District. He stated, “The
performance of the LEF over the past five years has demonstrated the
wisdom of the Lakeshore Board of Education and the dedication of the
LEF Board of Trustees. Now, with the establishment of the endowment fund,
LEF is strengthened further through the stability of its partnership
with the BCF.”
