Lakeshore Innovation Grants – Awards for 2008-09

The Lakeshore Excellence Foundation (LEF) Innovation Grant Committee selected nine applicants to be awarded a Lakeshore Innovation Grant. The grants are awarded annually to teachers and staff of the Lakeshore Public Schools for innovative projects that supplement the curriculum. The Foundation has awarded a total of $93,783.50 for 106 grants since its inception in 1998.

The 2008-09 recipients include:

Cindy Kuczynski and Dawn Luckritz of Hollywood Elementary for the Parenting Love and Logic project. The main goal is parent education in the Love and Logic concept of pre-preschoolers.

Cynthia Kliemchen of Roosevelt Elementary for Writing Trait Rubber Stamps which will increase proficiency and encourage students in writing.

Katy Carpenter and Ani Kuhn of Stewart Elementary for Book bags, books and manipulatives. The main goal is to get books into the hands of students in order to foster a love for reading while incorporating family in the process.

Amy Czech, Middle School, for Ink-jet printers, adapters, power strips & cart. The main goal is to impact the 6th grade class and teachers thereby enabling them to keep their equipment readily available in the 6th grade area.

Jennifer Velez, Middle School, for Play Away Digital Audio Books. The main goal is to increase students’ background knowledge and vocabulary through reading.

Brian McKean, Chuck Jager and Sean Schroeder, High School, for Digital projectors, wireless connections and cables. The main goal is to incorporate new technology with new textbooks in the Social Studies Department whereby impacting approximately 750 students.

Adam Wurst, High School, for a Digital recorder/media card reader, digital camcorder and tripod. The goal is to create audio and video instructional podcasts, to be posted on the LHS performing arts website plus lessons.

Jill McNabnay, High School, for Soil/Water Test Kits & Waders. The Environmental Science Class adopted Lincoln Township Beach and the main goal is to teach students to make data comparisons when studying contents of soil found in/or near water and beach with vegetation.

Katherine Lorey, High School, for Digital camera, telephoto sense & accessories. The main goal is for the students to learn photojournalism by creating meaningful photographs for the student newspaper.
