Stepping Stones to Enrichment Awards Two Grants Stepping Stones to Enrichment Awards Grants Lakeshore Excellence Foundation Enrichment Sponsor First Recipient: Kristie Barber Kristie Barber, a senior at Lakeshore High School, has demonstrated a passion for music all her life and has been participating in choir and band throughout her high school career. She has been in the Women’s Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble and Honors Choir. She has been in musical productions, and Forensics. She also is in the Marching Band, Flute Leader, Symphonic Band, Pep Band, and Drama Club. When Kristie was asked why she wanted to take the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Choir tour this year, she responded by saying that she loved music and that participating in this program would strengthen her musical skill and broaden her personal and musical horizons. Kristie commented that in the first three days at Blue Lake, the choir learned and memorized 25 songs in five different languages and different varieties and time periods. She also received classes in foreign languages and culture so she would be prepared for the tour. Upon her return from the three week trip, where the choir performed in Germany, Denmark, and France, Kristie said that “while she had to step outside of her comfort zone” she improved her sight-reading skills and felt more prepared for musical challenges and will use what she learned to help the Lakeshore Choir. Following graduation, Kristie will attend Western Michigan University to earn a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Music with a minor in Theatrical Arts. She then plans to go to Concordia University in Irvine, CA to earn a Masters Degree in Youth Ministry. The Lakeshore Excellence Foundation is proud of Kristie Barber and congratulates her for being the first recipient of a Lakeshore Excellence Foundation Enrichment Sponsorship grant. Kristie Barber is Reaching Higher! |
